The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council Alderman Hilary McClintock has expressed her sadness at the sudden death of Derry City FC captain Ryan McBride and extended her condolences to the McBride family, friends, teammates and everyone at Derry City Football Club.

“I was very shocked to hear of the sudden passing of such a talented and dedicated young man who devoted his life to football and to his beloved Derry City FC team. It’s a hugely sad day for the people of the city and region. I have heard so many moving tributes to Ryan today about what a quiet and modest young man he was who was worked hard on the field for his team and was a fantastic role model for young people. I would like to express my sincere condolences to his family and friends at this very difficult time.”
