St Mary’s College will host a fantastic 1 day science fair which is open to all second-level students. The fair will host an exciting competition and exhibition of projects, a prize-giving ceremony and include a selection of science talks, science demonstrations in the college laboratories and advice on careers in STEM and courses

CultureTECH is "Northern Ireland’s innovation festival" and one of the largest family-friendly technology events in the UK and Ireland. Over a specially extended 10-day event an expected 60,000 attendees will take part in a packed programme that brings together the most excitinginnovators from across the country, with some of the world’s biggest tech companies. Highlights include a city-wide maker exhibition, the BBC’s Micro Bits programme, 5 industry conferences and activities for over 20,000 school children. If you love getting hands-on with technology, this will be the highlight event of the year.
Throughout the year
Throughout the Year of Science and Innovation, CultureTECH will deliver a ground-breaking programme of educational events and activities based on the hugely popular game Minecraft. As many as 50,000 young people will get a chance to engage in the programme and learn everything from coding to engineering to local history - and the North-West will be a particular focus with initiatives taking place in schools, community groups and libraries across the region.

CoderDojo is a global network of free, volunteer-led, programming clubs where young people between 7 and 17, learn how to code, develop websites, apps and games. We are delighted to announce that CoderDojo’s annual global gathering for mentors and organisers - DojoCon - will take place in Derry. The city will welcome hundreds of delegates from around the world for 2 days of conferences and social events, hosted by local dojos, CultureTECH and the Nerve Centre.
Science and Innovation at Nerve Centre
The Year of Science and Innovation will see further STEM developments at the Nerve Centre in terms of Teacher Training, direct work with School Students and a wider programme of Community Activity that will bring the FabLab, the Curiosity Gallery and the Creative Learning Centres together in new and exciting ways that will reach people across the region.
Salters' Festival of Chemistry
NWRC is delighted to host the one day Salters’ Festival of Chemistry at the Strand Road Campus on 20th May. The event is aimed at local Year 8 & 9 pupils who will experience hands-on practical Chemistry challenges and amazing chemical demos. www.festivalsofchemistry.co.uk
Women in Engineering Day

This day will focus on the great opportunities for women in engineering, at a time when it has never been more important to address the engineering skills shortage. By encouraging girls into engineering careers we will not only be increasing diversity and inclusion - a business imperative - but enabling us to fill the substantial future job opportunities that have been predicted in this sector.
