Food Registration

Registering a Food Business

It is the responsibility of all food business establishments to ensure they are registered with the Environmental Health Department 28 days prior to opening. This is a legal requirement.

Registration applies to most types of food business including catering businesses run from home and mobile or temporary premises such as stalls and vans. If you use two or more premises you will need to register all of them

There is no charge for registration. Once registered it is not necessary to re-register unless there is a significant change in the business (such as name change or change of food business operator).

If your premises is to be located within the Derry City and Strabane District Council area  you can

- Download a Food Premises Registration Form, and return the completed and signed copy by email or to Council Offices

Once you have registered with the District Council you need notify them if any of the following occur:

 - change of proprietor 

 - change of address at which the movable premises are kept

 - the nature of the business changes

 - closure of premises / business

If the business has been taken over, the new proprietor will have to complete a new application form, as per the process outlined above.
