What is EYC ‘19

EYC19 Derry Strabane

Derry City and Strabane District Council (DCSDC) are bidding to secure the title of European Youth Capital 2019 (EYC 19) and WE NEED YOUR HELP!

The ‘European Youth Capital’ is a title awarded to a European city for the period of one year, during which it will be given the chance to showcase, through a multi-faceted programme, its youth-related cultural, social, political and economic life and development.

A successful EYC 19 bid will see the council area as one of Europe’s most progressive and enlightened places for young people to:

  • Live
  • Learn
  • Work
  • Play

The EYC initiative encourages the implementation of new ideas and innovative projects, with regard to the active participation of young people in society, and seeks to present a role model for the further development of youth policies in other European municipalities.

The entire Council area will benefit from hosting the title of EYC19: everywhere from Derry City, Strabane Town, the Faughan, Glenelly and Derg Valleys, to all the rural areas in between: Eglinton, Claudy and Park in the north and east to Newtownstewart, Castlederg and Killeter in the south and west.
