Mayor hosts reception for Brighter Ballymagorry Development Group’s 10th Anniversary

Earlier this week, the Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council Cllr Ruairí McHugh hosted a special civic reception to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Brighter Ballymagorry Development Group (BBDG), marking a decade of transformative service to the rural Sperrins.

 

Founded ten years ago, BBDG has grown from a local initiative into a vital pillar of the community. The group currently supports over 70 active members, offering a diverse lifeline of programmes including weekly walking groups, arts and crafts, fitness sessions, and unique cricket workshops.

 

During the reception, the Mayor praised the group’s role in providing immediate social connection for residents as well as influencing long-term regional strategy through their membership on the Sperrin Local Growth Partnership Board.

 

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Ruairí McHugh said it was a huge honour to welcome the group to the Guildhall. He said: “It was a true honour to host the members of the Brighter Ballymagorry Development Group at this milestone reception. For ten years, they have been the heartbeat of the rural Sperrins, ensuring that our rural communities are never left behind. From tackling social isolation through their walking groups to ensuring local voices are heard at a partnership level, BBDG embodies the spirit of community pride.
