Mayor launches “10 in Ten” Business partnership initiative in support of Hive Cancer Support
16 July 2026
Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Grace Uí Niallais, is calling on local small businesses to become part of an exclusive new charity partnership initiative that will provide vital support to her official charity for her Mayoral year, Hive Cancer Support.
The Mayor has launched the “10 in Ten” campaign, a unique fundraising initiative that aims to recruit small local businesses within the Council area who are willing to pledge £100 per month for ten months in support of her chosen charity, Hive Cancer Support. Hive has been providing counselling, support and care services to individuals and families affected by cancer across the North West for more than two decades.
Mayor Uí Niallais said: “Throughout my time as Mayor, I have been inspired by the generosity and community spirit that exists across our district. Through the 10 in Ten initiative, I am inviting local businesses who are able to, to join me in making a real difference to the lives of individuals and families impacted by cancer. Hive Cancer Support provides invaluable services to people at some of the most difficult times in their lives. By committing £100 per month for ten months, participating small businesses can play a direct role in helping Hive continue to deliver that support. This initiative is about creating meaningful partnerships between the civic, business and voluntary sectors while supporting a charity that provides a lifeline for so many people in our community.”
Participating businesses will become official 10 in Ten partners and will receive a range of benefits, including Mayoral visits to their premises, recognition through Mayoral and Hive Cancer Support social media channels, inclusion in campaign launches and press activity, and exclusive partnership branding materials. Businesses and their staff will also have access to a series of cancer awareness and prevention programmes delivered by Hive Cancer Support.
The Mayor added: “I understand that this is a financial commitment for small local businesses, but when ten come together the collective impact can be significant. I would encourage local businesses to consider getting involved and helping us reach our target of ten partners.”
While the initiative is limited to ten official partnership places, local businesses wishing to support Hive Cancer Support in other ways are also encouraged to make contact with the Mayor’s Office.
Businesses interested in securing one of the ten partnership opportunities or seeking further information can contact the Mayor’s Office on 028 7137 6508 or by email at [email protected].
