Tourism Development Strategy 2016-2020
Council are seeking a private sector industry representative from within the tourism sector to help inform the delivery of the 2016-2020 Tourism Development Strategy.
The new DCSDC Tourism Strategy (2016-2020) will be informed by the DCSDC Corporate Plan, Integrated Economic Development Strategy 2016 and Community Plan, as well as key strategic stakeholder plans, such as the Draft Tourism NI Strategy; Programme for Government; Tourism Ireland Marketing Plan and Visit Derry Annual Plan. The strategy will support the department’s targets to generate £1bn through tourism as an export market by 2025.
The Tourism Strategy will also take cognisance of the 2009-2020 Derry City Council’s ‘Focus on the Future’ Tourism Strategy; The Tyrone and Sperrins Destination Management Plan 2014, Cross-Border Tourism plans and other emerging strategies and policies influencing tourism including the NI Hotel Federation NI 2020 Strategy.
The Strategy will also support targets for a tourism industry that is:
- Visitor Focused
- Focused on inbound visitors from outside Northern Ireland to facilitate Northern Ireland’s economic development
- Locally Delivered
- Industry Led
- Government Enabled
- Based on award winning visitor experiences
It will focus on the aims of the DCSDC Community Plan, which sets to position Derry & Strabane as the cultural destination of choice, offering world class visitor experiences and compelling product offerings.
Private Sector Representation
Derry City & Strabane District Council is seeking a representative from within the tourism industry’s private sector to sit on the recently formed Tourism Steering Group. The successful candidate will act on behalf of the private sector and will advise on and support the delivery of the 2016-2020 Tourism Strategy in partnership with other strategic stakeholders.
