Come and meet ‘Hope’, the Lego Suffragette

Date: 23 April 2024 - 12 May 2024

Venue: Tower Museum, Union Hall Place, Derry, Derry, BT48 6LU

Hope arrived courtesy of the Education and Engagement team at Parliament Westminster, London.  In 2018 they had a life size model of a Lego Suffragette built to help, tell the story of women’s suffrage, 100 years after the first women gained the right to vote.

The Tower Museum is ‘Hope’s’ first stop in Northern Ireland, and she will continue to travel raising awareness of women’s equality until 2028 when she will celebrate the 1928 Representation of the People (Equal Franchise) Act, which gave equal voting rights to all women and men.

Hope was built using more than 32,000 bricks.  She took three lego employees 171 hours to build!  She was originally displayed in the House of Commons, and she will tour encouraging the community to follow in her footsteps by taking action on the issues they care about.

Access: Free entry to see ‘Hope’.  Paid admission to the Tower Museum galleries.
