Halloween 2021 Traders Application

Celebrating its 35th year this October, Derry Halloween has grown from unassuming beginnings to become an internationally acclaimed event, offering visitors a unique and authentic experience, that draws from the regions rich artistic, historical, cultural and culinary heritage and ability to harness the imagination and participation of all who visit.

As society plans some tentative steps back towards life as we knew it pre-Covid, Council have been working on the best way to deliver Derry Halloween in a way that complies with new restrictions without compromising the spirit of this international event. For 2021 we will deliver a trail of lighting, animation and installations across the city, which will be entitled 'Awakening the Walled City' and will run from Friday 29th to Sunday 31st October 2021. The footprint of the festival will spread 3 very distinct themed zones to ensure we deliver a vibrant but safe festival for all. Each zone will awaken from 5pm to 10pm each evening featuring a range of family friendly illuminated trails featuring installations, sound effects, displays, dressing and animation.

For businesses wishing to trade outside of their premises during this event, click here  to download the Business Activity form and let us know what you’re up to.

For event market trading, please see details below:

Please note the following application process is open to:

  • Businesses that meet the LegenDerry Food principles.
  • Businesses specialising in the supply of fast selling toys.

There will be a separate application process for ice cream vans

Product suitability at this event

Our main aim is to deliver a varied product offering whilst complementing existing businesses rather than competing with, therefore each application will be assessed individually whilst taking existing businesses nearby into account. Council reserves the right to restrict traders/ offers/ goods being sold and to avoid duplication, you may be asked to remove certain items from your offering. This will be agreed in advance. Goods not included in this application will not be permitted to be sold.

Food Trader Requirements (Street Food, Bakery & Sweet Confections)

We are seeking DCSDC registered food businesses who follow the LegenDerry Food principles, therefore are truly passionate about serving quality food which is in keeping with the values of the LegenDerry Food Brand – local produce, seasonal and sustainably produced goods which are of high quality and will add to the overall event experience and be enjoyed by both locals and tourists. Please note all traders must have a 4 / 5 food hygiene rating.

Please refer to page 21 in the application for information on food safety & standards.

Fast Selling Toys Requirements (Toys, Balloons, Light-up Toys, Face-Paints)

We are seeking individuals and businesses interested in trading at this event specialising in the supply of children’s toys (including battery operated light –up toys), balloons, face paints and other fast selling items aimed at children. Priority will go to businesses registered within the DCSDC area.

As the rules for selling toys in Northern Ireland have changed since Brexit, those wishing to apply must refer to and meet the new guidance from The Office of Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) on the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011 as they apply to toys being supplied in or into Northern Ireland from 1 January 2021.
