Call to action ahead of Positive Ageing Month in October

Derry City and Strabane District Council are seeking expressions of interest from organisations and individuals who want to take part in the programme of activities and events for Positive Ageing Month 2022.
The initiative is a month long campaign of events, activities and programmes this October that recognises and celebrates the contribution older people make to their communities and wider society.
A comprehensive programme of events is being developed that will enable older people to connect with others in their local communities, both virtually using online technology and physically with in-person opportunities.
International Day of Older Persons on October 1st will kick-start the campaign.
Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Sandra Duffy, encouraged local organisations to get involved in the programme.
“Following the success of last year’s campaign, Council and its lead partners the Western Health and Social Care Trust, Age Friendly Communities and the Public Health Agency are delighted to be running this initiative again,” she said.
“As people live longer, we all need to consider how best to support the older generation in our community but also how best to celebrate their contribution to family and community life.
“I would encourage older people to embrace the programme of activities and for local organisations and individuals who work with older people in any way to plan for activities that can be included in the programme before next month’s deadline, so that the programme is inclusive for everyone across the entire council area.”
