Celebrate the sound of Dylan at the Alley Theatre

19 January 2018

A fantastic tribute act to the great American singer-songwriter and musical icon Bob Dylan will take to the stage at the Alley Theatre on Saturday 3rd February.

The Bob Dylan Band featuring JBlack will transport you back to the Nobel Prize winner’s glory days and remind fans of why Dylan’s music is still regarded as the soundtrack to a whole generation.

Since the 1960’s, we have been spoilt by the prodigious output of Bob Dylan and the quality of his song-writing which has garnered multiple awards – culminating in the ultimate recognition of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2016 “For having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition”.

No matter what decade you choose, there is a favourite album or a host of enduring songs that have made a huge impression on fans – and the Bob Dylan Band aims to achieve a sense of these songs and his longevity as one of music’s greatest icons. Drawing from solo acoustic renditions of songs such as ‘Blowing in the Wind’, ‘The Times They Are a Changing’ and ‘A Hard Rain a-Gonna Fall’ – as well as arrangements of full band songs such as ‘Tangled Up in Blue’ and ‘Like a Rolling Stone’ – the Bob Dylan Band also include versions of songs performed with the Grateful Dead, Eric Clapton and Bruce Springsteen.

The ‘Last Waltz’ marked a chapter in Dylan’s distinguished career and two songs ‘The Nights They Drove Old Dixie Down’ and ‘The Weight’ are also included in the band’s set list.

The show is completed with songs from more recent albums such as ‘Oh Mercy’, ‘Modern Times’, and ‘Together through Life’, along with a selection of Dylan’s great work with The Travelling Wilburys.

The creative source for the tribute band is Mr JBlack, a musical maestro who has developed over 20 years as a true artisan of this genre.

The Bob Dylan Band celebrates the music of Dylan through a totally live concert experience with great musicians exploring great material!

Jimmy Duffy on drums and Jason Smyth on guitar have also the amazing experience of working alongside Bob Dylan himself – gaining great insight into the man and his creative muse – and they use their exceptional talent to interpret Dylan’s music with great perception.

JBlack has been developing the Bob Dylan show for a number of years. After some early one-man performances testing the concept of the show, he has continued to hone his skills on the harmonica, explore the many different tunings on the guitars, utilise the latest in technology, and has developed his voice to better communicate the songs of this musical icon. He has now taken the next step and formed the fantastic Bob Dylan Band!

Tickets to The Bob Dylan Band featuring JBlack on Saturday 3rd February are £14, £12 (con) available from the Alley Theatre Box Office on 028 71 384444 or online www.alley-theatre.com
