Council approval for 47 new homes at Ferndale Park

Members of Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Planning Committee have given their approval for full planning permission for the erection of 47 new residential units at lands at Ferndale Park in Lower Galliagh, Derry.

The residential units  comprise of 8 duplex apartments, 12 two-storey duplex units, 14 two- storey semis, six storey and a half semis and nine three-storey semis with associated landscaping, open space, parking and new road at lands west of Ferndale Park and south of Skeoge Link Road, Lower Galliagh, Derry. The application will now be issued by the Planning Officers to the applicants.

The application was submitted by BW Homes & Construction Ltd on a site of approximately 1.2 hectares, located on zoned housing lands as defined in the Derry Area Plan. 

Members were informed that the meeting, which was held at the Council Offices in Strabane,  how outline planning permission was previously granted for the entire zoned housing lands for which there was an agreed Concept Master Plan.  They were informed that the site is located immediately south of the upper roundabout on the main Skeoge Link Road and will be accessed from the existing roundabout, with new landscaping and boundary treatments associated with the new development to enhance the visual amenity and integration if the site. 

Members of the Planning Committee were informed at the meeting that there were no representations received in relation to the application and that all consultations with relevant bodies has taken place and been approved with conditions.

Welcoming the decision, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Cllr John Boyle said he was delighted the Council had approved this application to provide new housing in the Galliagh area of the city. He said the provision of new housing is a key element of the Council’s commitment in its developing Community Plan/Inclusive Growth Plan.
