Council grant planning permission for 10 new apartments on Bishop Street
05 January 2017
Members of Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Planning Committee have given their full approval to a proposed change of use of the space at 18-20 Bishop Street which will see the transformation of the office accommodation into 10 apartments on the first and second floor of the building.
At the committee’s meeting on Wednesday 4th January, Councillors agreed that the proposal submitted by Green Homes (NI) Ltd would not only provide new living accommodation within the commercial core of the city but would also bring the building back to use.
Following the meeting, SDLP Councillor John Boyle who is Chairperson of the Committee commented, ‘The Planning Committee was happy to accept this proposal which will see the development of 10 new homes within the city centre.
‘Elected Members believe this new accommodation in the city centre will be something that will further develop and enhance the area and contribute significantly to the local economy. It is a well-known fact that there is a real shortage of available accommodation, for small families and individuals, particularly in the city centre. This is good news and we are hopeful that we will see further developments like this in the near future as we work towards an ambitious and exciting Local Develop Plan for the city and district.’
