Council introduces live streaming of meetings
01 May 2015
The first Full Council meeting of Derry City and Strabane District Council took place on Thursday 30th April in the Guildhall chamber. The meeting was streamed live and can be found on the Council website www.derrycityandstrabanedistrict.com.
One of the key decisions made this month was the proposed efficiency plan which will see Derry City and Strabane District Council experience a 22% reduction in existing senior management team costs, as a direct result of the structuring of the new organisation.
April also saw the historic shift of planning powers to local councils, with local councillors passing decisions on planning applications for the district. It’s the first time in over 40 years that planning decisions have been made by Local Councils in Northern Ireland. Another highlight of the month was the meeting of the Audit, Assurance and Risk Committee which experienced a full agenda of open business.
The meeting this week concludes the first set of committee meetings for the new Council for the Derry City and Strabane District area. There are six committees which will meet on a monthly basis: Planning; Health and Communities; Environment and Regeneration; Business and Culture; Assurance, Audit and Risk and Governance and Strategic Planning.
In addition to the six committee meetings the full Council meeting will take place on the last Thursday of each month in the Guildhall, Derry and will be streamed live.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend any of the committee meetings that take place throughout the month or alternatively can follow the agenda and papers on the new Council website: www.derrycityandstrabanedistrict.com.
