Council invite local rural companies to Business Engagement Event

18 April 2018

Derry City and Strabane District Council are hosting a special event next month to allow local companies in the rural area to learn more about the support programmes and initiatives available to them.

The Business Engagement Event will be hosted at Artigarvan Community Hall on Wednesday May 2nd and will feature presentations from a number of officers from Council’s Business and Culture directorate.

The afternoon event will be hosted by Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Maolíosa McHugh, who encouraged as many local rural businesses as possible to avail of the opportunity to learn more about how Council can help them.

“I am delighted that we are reaching out to businesses in the rural area in this way by hosting this event to update them on the programmes and initiatives we are rolling out as a council and letting them know how they can get involved,” he said.

“It is an exciting period for the Business and Culture directorate with key events like the Foyle Maritime Festival offering trading and marketing opportunities for local companies to avail of.

“It is also a useful chance for companies to also learn how initiatives like the Rural Business Investment Scheme and Business Boost can benefit their business.”

The Business Engagement Event will be hosted from 3.30pm until 5pm and will begin with a presentation from Festival and Events Manager Jacqueline Whoriskey who will detail the logistics of forthcoming events such as the Foyle Maritime Festival and Strabane Summer Jamm before Market Officer Nicolle Walters will provide information on how to avail of trading opportunities at those events.

Rural Manager Deidre Harte will provide an overview of the Rural Development Programme and details of how companies can avail of the next round of funding in the Rural Development Programme while Tourism Manager Jennifer O’Donnell will provide an update on the rural based adventure project SAINT and Council’s new tourism strategy.

Finally, Business officers Tara Nicholas and Danielle McNally will present to the companies about the support and mentoring on offer to them from Council through the Business Boost and City Start initiatives.

To Register for the Business Engagement Event contact Gemma Starlett at Derry City and Strabane District Council on 028 71 376505 or e mail [email protected].
