Council launches new online cycling map

11 June 2019

Local cycling enthusiasts can check out the growing network of routes across Derry and Strabane thanks to a new online map just launched by Council marking International Bike Week.

The map marks out all local cycling routes and will enable locals and visitors to explore the network, plan new routes and locate handy facilities useful to cyclists.

Launching the new online resource, Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District, Councillor Michaela Boyle, said it would be a really valuable guide for cyclists, especially those new to the area. “I’m delighted to see the launch of the online map which offers quick and easy access to the latest information on all our local greenways, park cycle paths, shared use paths and on road cycle lanes in our District,” she declared.

“Making it easier for people to travel in a more active way is a key objective for Council as it’s good for our environment, reducing congestion and carbon emissions. And it’s great for people’s physical and mental health.

“With our ever-expanding traffic-free greenway network and the development of our parks and green infrastructure we are making really positive strides towards developing a more sustainable region.”

The map will make it easier for local people to plan journeys on their bike and will be a boost to our cycle tourism offering. The map also provides practical information like where you can park your bike and where to go if you get a puncture.
