Digital conference to focus on creative talent

22 June 2015

Local companies will be flocking to the North West Regional College this week to hear how the latest digital technologies can enhance their business prospects, with the launch of the Digital Derry conference.

Derry City and Strabane District Council, in partnership with NORIBIC and Culturetech, have planned a packed programme of inspirational talks and workshops taking place on June 24 and 25, with digital experts on hand from around the world to share their experiences.

The conference is a highlight of Council’s Growing the Digital Economy Programme, and is part funded by Invest Northern Ireland and the European Regional Development Fund under the Sustainable Competitiveness Programme for Northern Ireland.

A key focus of the conference is the development of creative business ideas, which will be explored by a number of industry experts including local businessman Oran O’Carroll. A talent manager for Beverly Hills based multi channel network Collective Digital Studio (CDS), Oran will be talking about his experience working with artists such as Carly Simon and Louisa Wendorff.

Oran prospects, signs and manages premium YouTube influencers into CDS’ expanding roster of premium brands, creators, and content providers. Prior to working with CDS, he established a recording studio 'Audio Booth' and co-founded a digital record label Walled City Records.

Speaking ahead of the conference Oran said: "The digital entertainment industry has provided a wealth of opportunities.

“It has paved the way for many young entrepreneurs, as they are able to create and upload content, grow their online presence, and leverage this for paid opportunities. Online platforms like YouTube are bridging the gap between traditional and digital media."

Manager of the Growing the Digital Economy Programme with Derry City and Strabane District Council, Rosalind Young, said they were expecting a good turnout for the event. “I’m delighted that we’ve had so much interest from local companies and the conference is designed to appeal to a broad spectrum of industries. We have some fantastic speakers lined up and I’m looking forward to hearing their insights into achieving success using the latest digital tools.

“Anyone interested in finding out what support is available for their business should come along to the conference, to find out how they can take their ideas to the next level.”

The second day of the conference will offer businesses the chance to take part in a day of specialised workshops focusing on establishing a strong international presence.
