Discover how you can learn and earn at Apprenticeship Fair

03 October 2022
Find out more about how you can learn, gain a qualification and get paid at a special event taking place in October, aimed at setting people on the path to an apprenticeship.
Led by Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Labour Market Partnership, the Apprenticeship Fair is taking place on Thursday October 13 from 1pm – 4pm in the Guildhall, offering the chance to connect with a range of training and education providers.
The event is not just aimed at school leavers, but anyone who is hoping to change direction or seeking some inspiration regarding the next steps to take on their career path. With the added bonus of earning while you learn, apprenticeships offer a more practical approach to trying out a new career.
The Fair is open to everyone interested in taking on a new challenge through an apprenticeship in a wide range of industries and you can talk face to face on the day with the apprenticeship providers in attendance, including 21 Training, Craft Training, Rutledge Training, People First and North West Regional College.
Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District, Councillor Sandra Duffy, said the Fair could open up a door to a whole new career. “These are challenging times and academic pathways can be costly when it comes to course fees, which is why apprenticeships can provide an alternative, viable pathway to a career for a lot of people,” she explained.
“There are lots of options available and plenty of support in terms of accessing information and advice. I would really encourage anyone who is keen to start a new career to consider the possibility of an apprenticeship, and find out more about the many local businesses that offer opportunities to both work and study, across a wide range of areas from childcare to computing.”
Tina Gillespie, Skills Manager with Council, said a lot of people aren’t aware that they can reach their career goals via an alternative pathway.
“I think people would be surprised at the diversity of options that are open to them through apprenticeships and the local businesses who are keen to tap into the wealth of young talent we have here in the North West. This Apprenticeship Fair could be your first step towards a fantastic new career.”
No registration for the event is required, just drop into the Guildhall between 1-4pm on Thursday October 13th.
