Eglinton Recycling Centre to reopen to public by appointment only
10 December 2020
Eglinton Recycling Centre will reopen to the public this Friday December 11th at 8am with booking available from Thursday December 10th at 9am on an appointment only basis.
The site had been temporarily closed due to difficulties in maintaining social distancing and implementing a traffic management system due to its location and layout.
The public can book their slots between 8am and 5pm from Monday – Saturday by calling 028 71 376590 or online at derrystrabane.com/recycling.
Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Brian Tierney, welcomed the reopening of the facility.
"I am pleased Eglinton Recycling Centre has reopened to the public following extensive work by Council officers and the site owners, in consultation with the HSE, to ensure the necessary health and safety measures are in place at this mixed use site," he said.
"The reopening is timely ahead of the Christmas period for residents in the area who have been using our other Household Recycling Centres while a solution was found.
"I would like to encourage users to be on time for their appointments so that staff can maintain social distancing and implement the traffic management measures in place effectively."
The following Household Recycling Centres are now open to the public – Pennyburn, Strathfoyle, Claudy, Strahans Road in Strabane, Newtownstewart, Donemana, Claudy, Plumbridge, Park and Eglinton.
Killen Recycling Centre remains temporarily closed however there is an alternative waste disposal site available at the Spamount site, every Tuesday and Thursday from 9am-4pm.
Council's Bulky Waste Collection Service is fully operational, those wishing to avail of the service are being encouraged to book online.
If you are travelling to recycling centres please allow time for your journey, follow the signage and guidelines and co-operate with our staff.
Please note that winter opening hours have been introduced at all our recycling centres from Monday 26th October and can be accessed at derrystrabane.com/recycling centres where information about all recycling facilities is available.
