Entertainment for all the family at Strabane Christmas Fayre

27 November 2019

Over 30 craft and food stalls will showcase the best of local produce this Sunday December 1st when the fourth annual Strabane Christmas Fayre makes a welcome return to Castle Street and Castle Place.

The popular event is a joint initiative between Strabane Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership, Derry City and Strabane District Council, Strabane Chamber of Commerce and the Strabane Business Improvement District (BID) and aims to promote the town’s unique food and crafts offering, complementing the existing retail offering in the run up to Christmas.

As well as food and craft stalls at this year’s fayre, local traders will also be selling plants and wreaths, Christmas decorations, artisan soaps and oils, artwork, sculptures, textile items, homewares and jewellery.

The popular annual event will feature a wide selection of festive stalls and refreshment, a dedicated kid’s fun area featuring face painting, arts and crafts and the chance to meet the man himself, Santa Claus.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Michaela Boyle, encouraged the public to get involved in the Fayre and take the opportunity to choose from a wide range of locally made gifts for Christmas.

“The Strabane Christmas Fayre is an outstanding showcase of the quality artisan products from our local area and I am delighted that so many local traders have signed up to get involved,” she said.

“The Fayre is growing year on year, creating a wonderful festive atmosphere that complements the town’s existing retailers and gives shoppers a varied choice of gift ideas.

“The run up to Christmas is a crucial time of year for retail in Strabane and this is an ideal way for them to promote their business and connect with new customers.

“There is lots to see and do for all the family so what better way to get into the festive spirit than by coming along on Sunday and supporting local traders?”

The food offering at the Fayre will include crepes and waffles while savoury choices include an array of gourmet burgers, hotdogs and authentic curries.

Entertainment will also include the Christmas Wonderland Experience Bus leaving from outside New Look and circling the town with live singing and entertainment from the local Encore Performing Arts Academy and finishing off with a visit of Mrs Claus at home in her sitting room.

The Strabane Christmas Fayre is open from 1pm to 5pm.
