Family Fun Day for new look Riversdale

17 September 2018

Riversdale Leisure Centre in Strabane will be hosting a ‘Family Fun Day’ from 12-2pm on Sunday 30th September 2018 to mark the completion of the recent £150k refurbishment and to celebrate their 40th anniversary.

The event also coincides with their new early morning opening hours which have been extended to include 6.30am opening times on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings – to facilitate new early morning swimming, gym and classes.

The refurbishment works carried out during the summer holidays include upgraded changing facilities in the men’s, women’s and family areas, including the installation of new lockers and cubicles, and a repainting of the internal area of the building.

The newly-renovated facility will also host family fun inflatable pool sessions – with a new bespoke pool inflatable ‘The Whirligig’ and smaller floats and inflatable toys in the teaching pool for children.

Speaking ahead of attending the ‘Family Fun Day’ celebrations, Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr John Boyle said:

“I am delighted to be celebrating the 40th anniversary of this fantastic community facility with an afternoon packed full of children’s entertainment – including bouncy castles, face painting, balloon modelling and much more.

“I would therefore encourage everyone to join in the family fun and come along on the day!

“Thousands of people from Strabane and the surrounding area have made use of and enjoyed the facilities at Riversdale over 40 years to improve their health and fitness.

“Indeed, it will be great to get a first glimpse of the newly refurbished leisure centre following £150,000 investment by Council.

“I also have no doubts that users will be delighted with the refurbishment works – and hope the new look centre will encourage more residents to make use of the sporting and leisure facilities on offer.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank members of the local community for supporting the centre’s redevelopment.  The partial closure during the summer holidays will have caused some inconvenience but the work has been much needed to bring about this exciting, modernised facility.

“Indeed, Council are fully committed to getting more people in Strabane fit and active – and the redevelopment of Riversdale is a key part of our plan to provide access to high quality, modern leisure facilities that the whole community can enjoy.”
