Final call for groups to apply for Global Learning Day Fund

08 September 2020

A final call has been issued for anyone hoping to apply for a special fund to support organisations tasked with delivering learning opportunities to assist those seeking employment.
The North West Learning Fund is administered by the Community Foundation for N. Ireland and is available to any organisation interested in delivering online learning sessions as part of a Global Learning Day taking place on the 30th September.
Last year Derry City and Strabane District became a member of UNESCO's Global Network of Learning Cities, promoting lifelong learning to all citizens, across all sectors, communities and all ages. Derry City and Strabane Learning City is funded by the North West Regional College, Ulster University and Council.
The UNESCO Irish Network of Learning Cities which includes, Cork, Limerick, Dublin, Belfast and Derry and Strabane, will host the online Learning Day for Ireland on 30 September.
In keeping with this programme, the North West Learning Fund will offer successful applicants grants of £400 to create an online learning video for inclusion in the online one day event.
The deadline for submissions is September 10 2020, and the Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District, Councillor Brian Tierney, today urged anyone with the capacity to host a virtual learning session to apply.
"We are all living in a different reality at the moment and we have all come to rely more and more on virtual experiences to assist with teaching and training," he explained.
"While the schools are returning to face to face learning, many organisations do not have the capacity to deliver safe socially distanced learning in accordance with the current restrictions.
"The North West Learning Fund would provide a much welcome boost to any organisation trying to deliver online learning to assist those in need of training with a view to finding a pathway to employment. I would really encourage any organisation to sign up for the opportunity to deliver an online learning session for Global Learning Day."
The fund is open to constituted community organisations, and CICs, within the local area only, which support economically inactive people living in the North West, to find a route to employment, through training and learning initiatives. Individuals who are collaborating/partnering with a constituted group within the geographical area can also apply.
The purpose of the Fund is to encourage innovation and facilitate more private philanthropy and collaboration within the Voluntary and Community Sector leading to improved sustainability outcomes.
Applications must be submitted by 1pm on September 10th To find out more about the fund and if your organisation is eligible go to https://communityfoundationni.org/grants/north-west-learning-fund/
