Groups Invited to Celebrate Launch of New Diversity Calendar

19 November 2015

Local community organisations are being invited to request free calendars for community distribution or to attend a special Christmas celebration of diversity and the launch of a new cultural calendar courtesy of Derry City and Strabane District Council.

The ‘Calendars, Columba and Christmas!’ event will take place on Monday 7th December in the St Columba Heritage Centre, Derry, and groups will have the opportunity to take away copies of the colourful new calendar to distribute among their own members or at pre-Christmas events.

The ‘Diversity: Spice of Life’ calendar features a selection of positive cross community images and is available free ahead of Christmas making it the ideal stocking filler.

At the launch event community and voluntary groups can share in the celebration of the district’s rich cultural mix and hear more about how the calendar was made.

Speaking ahead of the launch, Community Relations Officer with Derry City and Strabane District Council Sue Divin, said: “I’m delighted to be able to extend this invitation to members of our various community organisations and to hear more about the ideas behind the calendar. The calendar launch is a small festive celebration of diversity and to help the calendar carry a positive message about culture and understanding throughout 2016.”

The event will run in two sessions – one starting at 11am and the second starting at 12noon.  Those attending will also enjoy a tour of the St. Columba Heritage Centre in the grounds of Longtower Chapel and a light Christmassy lunch afterwards.

Spaces are very limited so groups are advised to book immediately! All names must be given at the time of booking and there will be a maximum of two places available per community group. Individuals are also welcome.

The Good Relations Team are also keen to hear from any local groups (community groups, faith based groups, sports groups, schools etc) who would like to have some free copies of the calendar to distribute to their own members or at events pre-Christmas. Up to 100 calendars can be set aside on request and these can be collected by the group from council offices either in Strabane or at the Shared Future Centre (top floor) at an arranged time/date in the week of 7th – 11th December.

To register for the ‘Calendars, Columba and Christmas!’ event or to reserve calendars for collection by your community group please complete and return the attached registration form by Monday 30th November to: [email protected] or telephone: 02871253253 ext 8223 to give details over the phone.
