Houston Homewares triumphs in this year’s festive window competition

21 December 2022

Houston Homewares scooped the top prize in this year’s Christmas Window Competition in Strabane in an online vote, securing the £1,000 prize fund.

Cilento came in second place winning £500 while Bejeweled at Soul was third and received £250.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Sandra Duffy, congratulated the winners Houston Homewares and said the competition was a fantastic way to promote local business while encouraging everyone to shop local as much as they can.

“Well done to all of the 13 businesses who entered this year’s Christmas Window Competition – what a fantastic way to bring some festive cheer to the town. Strabane is a great shopping town and this fun competition created a lovely trail through the town center.

“The businesses have put a lot of effort into this year’s competition and they have done an amazing job. They really deserve all the support they can get this Christmas, and I encourage everyone to shop local for those last minute gifts and continue to support the shops in your town center in the New Year.”

In its third year, BID Strabane was delighted to launch the 2022 Christmas Window Competition, following great success in previous years. The competition aims to promote local business, drive footfall and encourage people to stay local when doing their Christmas shopping. Photos of each shop window were published on Facebook, and the public voted for their winners.

Chair of Strabane BID, Kieran Kennedy, said, “We love to see this competition come around every year as it really does bring so much festive cheer to the local community. The entries this year were fantastic and I’d like to say well done to everyone who got involved.

“The last few years have been challenging for everyone and this is a great way to bring people back into their own town center, lift morale and give the business community a boost it deserves.

“I’d like to congratulate our winners Houston Homewares as well as Cilento and Bejeweled at Soul who came second and third, along with every business who took part. I’d also like to thank our local community in Strabane and the wider district who have continued to support our businesses and create that beautiful sense of festive cheer in the run up to the big day.”
