Information on Off Street Parking Transferring Function

30 March 2015

From 1st April 2015 off street car parking in the Derry City and Strabane District area becomes a responsibility of the new Council as a result of Local Government Reform.

Members of the public wishing to use the off street car parking facilities will see little change to the service provided. All forms of payment, including the current ability to pay via phone or through the Parkmobile app, will continue to operate as normal in conjunction with NSL, who will be servicing and enforcing the car parks. Season tickets can also still be purchased on 028 9334 4007.

DRD introduced a pilot scheme of £1 for 5 hours car parking which is due to end on 31st March 2015, after which it becomes Council’s responsibility to set tariffs. Legally on 1st April 2015 tariffs will revert back to their respective per hour costs put in place prior to the launch of the pilot scheme.

Derry City and Strabane District Council will revert back to the standard tariffs charged by the car parks before the launch of the pilot scheme. However, it is proposed that a wider consultation in the new Council area will be performed in order to determine the best process and pricing structure for the stakeholders in Derry City and Strabane District before making any further amendments to costs of this service.

There is currently a notification on all off street parking locations with related information.
