Jay Rayner brings Kitchen Cabinet to Derry’s Guildhall
15 September 2016
The Kitchen Cabinet, chaired by renowned restaurant critic Jay Rayner, featured questions from the local audience in the Guildhall, including participants from Derry, Donegal and Belfast.
In terms of award-winning local food and drink producers featured during NI Year of Food and Drink 2016, the guests included Leona Kane from Broighter Gold Rapeseed Oil and Ciaran Mulgrew from Niche Drinks, makers of St Brendan's Irish cream liqueur.
The four well-seasoned panellists included BBC Radio Ulster resident chef Paula McIntyre, a stalwart of Derry’s food festivals; Tim Anderson, 2011 TV Masterchef winner and Japanese food expert who has a restaurant in London; Rachel McCormack, the Glaswegian cook and Catalonian food expert; and Zoe Laughlin, the show’s materials expert.
It was host Jay Rayner's 50th birthday and he was presented with a personalised cake made by Mary Blake, Council's Tourism Manager, which he later shared with the audience who also sang a rousing version of Happy Birthday for him at the close of the show in the Whittaker Suite.
The Kitchen Cabinet from Derry’s Guildhall will be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 on Saturday, September 24th at 10.30am and repeated on Tuesday, September 27th at 3pm.
