Last call for nominations for new arts and culture partnership

22 May 2019

There are just a few days left to secure places on a new partnership that will oversee the delivery of an ambitious Arts & Culture Strategy (2019-2024) for Derry and Strabane.

The strategy is being led by Derry City and Strabane District Council and will complement the recently completed Tourism Strategy and Integrated Economic Development Strategy, bringing the development of Council services in line with the outcomes identified within the Strategic Growth Plan for the area.

The plan is the result of a comprehensive consultation process based on a co-design methodology aimed at promoting creativity and collaboration in the local community, and local organisations and individuals are now being asked to assist in overseeing its delivery.

Friday May 24th is the deadline for applications, and anyone with an interest in enhancing local culture and the arts is invited to apply.

The Co-Delivery Group will reflect the needs of audiences, communities and the wider arts and culture sector in delivering the strategy, which aims to engage citizens and deliver a high quality arts programme, strengthening the cultural infrastructure of the region.

Head of Culture with Council, Aeidin McCarter, explained what the role will involve. “The strategy has identified six key aims and following this open call Council aims to appoint two representatives to help oversee the delivery of each of these aims over a two year period, before the representation is refreshed.

“We hope to attract a diverse range of candidates from a variety of backgrounds and abilities, including practitioners, artists, cultural organisations and audiences to ensure a wide depth and breadth of knowledge and experience.”

In addition to inviting relevant statutory and support agencies this advisory group will include Derry City and Strabane District Council elected Members on a cross party basis as well as Council Officers. The group will meet four times per annum as well as deliver an open annual meeting to review the strategy, discuss progress and consider ongoing process implementation.
