Last chance to sign up for online business info sessions

22 September 2020

Derry City and Strabane District Council's Business Support team are hosting a business engagement event this week to provide an update on the grants support available and activities planned over autumn and winter.

The online sessions will be held this Wednesday September 23rd for businesses in Derry at 11am and 2.30pm for businesses in the Strabane area.

Anyone interested in taking part can register at businessengagement.eventbrite.co.uk.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Brian Tierney, will chair the event.

"I hope as many local businesses as possible can sign up and take part this week," he said.

"The sessions will provide attendees with information on the new Business Innovation and Growth Programme (BIG) as well as an overview of Covid Business Recovery Grant Schemes that are available for them to apply for.

"There will also be an update on the proposed plans for the city centre infrastructure Covid Recovery Scheme."

The session will have update from Council's Environment and Regeneration section in relation to the proactive collaborative approach to improving the physical infrastructure in the city and town centre to encourage retail in a safe and social distanced environment.

An update on how businesses can get involved in securing funding to install outdoor seating or awnings will be provided as well as the proposed animation programme scheduled for the city and town centres during Halloween and Christmas.

"This year's Halloween and Christmas celebrations are going to be very different from previous years with the focus on digital and community," added the Mayor. "Council is embarking on a campaign to encourage people to shop local and support local businesses in a safe and controlled environment.

"A bespoke animation programme of activity, currently being organised by the Council's events team will form a key element of that messaging and will be in place at key points in both Derry and Strabane to encourage people back into the town centres in a safe manner."

Businesses interested in taking part are urged to register in advance via businessengagement.eventbrite.co.uk.
