Local businesses urged to consider Brexit implications at Enterprise Week event

26 February 2018

Derry City and Strabane District Council are inviting local businesses to attend a special event to help them learn more about the support available to them during Brexit.

‘Is Your Business Brexit Ready?’ is being hosted at the Fir Tress Hotel in Strabane on Wednesday March 7th as part of Enterprise Week and will allow those in attendance to hear from a panel of experts on how best to prepare their post Brexit strategy.

Panelists will include Managing Director of O’Neill’s Sportswear Kieran Kennedy, Eoin Magennis from the University of Ulster Economic Policy Centre, Bank of Ireland Economist and Market Analyst Alan Bridle and Brian O’Connor, Senor Consumer Analyst from Mintel Ireland.

“The decision for the UK to leave the EU has opened up a period of uncertainty for local businesses,” explained Derry City and Strabane District Council Business Development Manager Louise Breslin.

“The potential implications for businesses both North and South are significant and complex so it is important for them to consider their options now to create a robust strategy to deal with those challenges.

“This event is an ideal opportunity for business owners and consultants to learn more about the support and guidance available to them such as funding for professional advice from InterTrade Ireland.”

O’Neill’s MD Kieran Kennedy has already received support from InterTrade Ireland to plan for Brexit and will share that experience and answer any questions for those in attendance.

Eoin Magennis, Ulster University Economic Policy Centre will analyse what has happened so far and where businesses should look for opportunities and challenges.

Alan Bridle, UK Economist and Market Analyst, Bank of Ireland will provide an outlook of the current economic climate and his views on what may impact business trading during the transition phase of the Brexit process.

Brian O’Connor, Senior Consumer Analyst, Mintel Ireland will provide insights on current consumer trends and how consumers are interacting and purchasing products.

The event at the Fir Trees Hotel, Dublin Road, Strabane is from 10am until 12pm, interested attendees must register online at www.derrystrabane.com/enterpriseweek or by contacting Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Business Development team on 028 71 253 253.
