Mayor concerned at redundancy consultation at First Source

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane Cllr Sandra Duffy said news that jobs are at risk at a local call centre company are deeply worrying and is seeking an urgent meeting with the company to discuss their future plans.

Speaking following confirmation that Firstsource Solutions have commenced a redundancy consultation process at its Derry and Belfast sites, Mayor Duffy said it was imperative that the company clearly outlined its plans and communicated openly with staff in terms of providing with the necessary support they require.

Mayor Duffy said: “I was hugely disappointed to hear this news today and will be seeking a meeting with Firstsource as soon as possible to outline their plans to protect staff in Derry. This news comes less than a week of the announcement of job losses at the Seagate Technology company and its imperative that every effort is made to protect the workforce and prevent any further job losses in this city and district. Firstsource employs a significant number of people in Derry and any job losses in this current difficult economic climate is a devasting blow to our local economy and every effort must be made to provide support for the staff affected.”
