Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council Alderman Hilary McClintock has expressed her heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends of the Northern Ireland football supporter who died in France last night.
The man, who has been named as 24-year-old Darren Rodgers from Ballymena , is alleged to have died after falling from a promenade onto a rocky beach.
The Mayor said she was shocked and saddened at the tragic accident.
"This is a terrible tragedy and my thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and the entire local community. The loss of such a young life is particularly tragic considering the circumstances and how he was in Nice supporting his national team in the Euro Championships. I am sure the Northern Ireland fans will rally around each other to offer support to one another at this difficult time," she added.
