Mayor hosts reception for Farren family in advance of the naming of the Mark Farren Stand

13 March 2018

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council Cllr Maolíosa McHugh held a reception in the Mayor’s Parlour, Guildhall, on Monday night for the family of the late Mark Farren. The reception was held in advance of the naming of the new stand at the regenerated Brandywell Stadium. Following the reception the family travelled to the Brandywell where they unveiled the new Mark Farren Stand and attended the Derry City FC v Limerick match.

Mayor McHugh says he was delighted to meet with the family and to be part of the naming of the new stand. “It was a fantastic honour for me to be part of the naming ceremony for the new Mark Farren Stand. It was a very emotional occasion for the Farren family and I felt very privileged to be part of it. The new stand will ensure that the legacy of Mark Farren will live on in the hearts of Derry City FC fans for generations to come.”
