Mayor invites local families for some summer fun

26 June 2015

Families across the district are being invited to join in the excitement at the Mayor’s special Family Fun Day, taking place during the Flavours of the Foyle Seafood Festival on July 25.

Mayor's Fun Day

From 12pm until 4pm the Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District, Councillor Elisha McCallion, is throwing open the doors of the Guildhall in Derry for an afternoon of exciting activities to suit all ages.

Announcing the event today at the Guildhall Mayor McCallion said she was looking forward to meeting some of the district’s younger citizens.

“One of the best parts of this role is meeting local youngsters and I’m always impressed by the energy, enthusiasm and talent of our young people. It’s the perfect opportunity to say thank you for all the warm welcomes I’ve received on my visits to our local schools and community groups.

“This really is a family event as I took the advice of the experts and asked my two boys Daithí and Fiachra to come up with the ultimate fun activity package, so it was a proper family project and they’ve done a brilliant job.

“It’s also a great chance to allow children to explore the beautiful Guildhall, as well as enjoy some fantastic fun activities.”

All the fun is free but there will be the opportunity to contribute to the Mayor’s chosen charity with a special collection on the day for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Throughout the afternoon children can battle it out with some console challenges at Game On in the Whittaker Suite. The Main Hall will host a huge bouncy castle, as well as balloon modeling, face painting and arts and craft activities.

Capture the moment at the Camper Van photo booth, dip some treats – no fingers allowed - in the chocolate fountain, and visit the candy corner in the foyer outside the main hall.

The building will be buzzing with activities, with the fun spilling out into the Guildhall Square which will be overrun with special characters, as well as arts and crafts, face painting and for courageous kids, the mysteries of the Loughs Agency touch tank!

While the Guildhall activities are only on during Saturday there will be plenty to see and do on Sunday July 26 as the Flavours of the Foyle continues to bring more flavorsome fun to the Guildhall Square with live cookery and demonstrations all day.
