Mayor launches ‘exciting programme of events’ for Enterprise Week 2018
06 February 2018
Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Maolíosa McHugh has launched an ‘exciting’ five-day programme of events and activities for this year’s Enterprise Week 2018 – Monday 5th to Friday 9th March – which will focus on supporting individuals who want to start a new business and helping existing enterprises to grow.
A host of experts will be on hand during Enterprise Week 2018 to offer young entrepreneurs and seasoned businesses alike advice on business planning, marketing your business, lead generation, where to access funding and much more.
The week-long programme of mentoring, advice and networking will also highlight the services and support available to local SME's and start-ups throughout the Council area – as well as provide a selection of ‘FREE’ events and workshops tailored to inspire and inform.
Mayor McHugh is urging entrepreneurs of all ages to participate in this year’s workshops, seminars, advice clinics and mentoring sessions. He said: “Enterprise Week 2018 is a unique opportunity for Derry City and Strabane District Council and our partners to engage with local businesses and assist them in up skilling, networking and engaging with one another.
“Indeed, our aim as a Council is to prosper through a strong, competitive and innovative economy – and we aim to do this by empowering our local business community to realise its full economic potential for the benefit of all our residents.
“Running this fantastic series of events over five days is therefore a great opportunity to offer young entrepreneurs and seasoned businesses alike the practical advice and assistance that will help them produce effective strategies for achieving growth and development.
“A variety of experts will be available throughout the five-day programme who boast a wealth of experience and knowledge. During their talks and information sessions, they will share their experiences and provide advice on the do’s and don’ts of forging a successful enterprise.
“This year’s specially tailored schedule has been organised by the business team at Council – who have extensive experience in assisting small businesses across a broad range of sectors.
“There will also be opportunities for networking and a number of ‘Start up a Business Drop-In Days’ in Derry and Strabane, alongside information and advice on Brexit and the Rural Business Investment Scheme.
“During the course of Enterprise Week the judging of the ‘£10k Start Up Business Challenge’ will also take place, as well as a ‘Who wants to be an Entrepreneur Quiz’! The week will end with a significant opening for local businesses at the ‘Meet the Buyer’ event – an excellent opportunity for SME’s to showcase their business capabilities to an influential, public sector and big business audience.
“So, if you are a young entrepreneur or an already seasoned business professional, Enterprise Week promises to offer everyone new learning and networking opportunities which are not to be missed!”
