Mayor launches exciting plans for Christmas 2021

Derry City and Strabane District Council have launched their Christmas campaign and programme for 2021 including a number of exciting events to help get you in the mood for the festive season.
The Uncover the Magic of Christmas programme includes a magical procession through the streets of Derry and Strabane for the Christmas lights switch-ons, the renowned Walled City Christmas Markets and the Mayor's Magical Christmas Experience.
Santa will be the guest of honour among a range of festive characters and stunning bespoke mobile installations for the procession which will weave its way around Strabane town centre on Saturday November 20th and the City on Sunday November 21st.
The City's parade will take in many of its famous landmarks as it passes through the Diamond and Guildhall Square turning on the lights as they pass by.
The Walled City Christmas Markets make a welcome return to Guildhall Square on the first two weekends of December offering unique handmade crafts, mouth-watering local artisan legenderry food and scrumptious, tasty treats.
The Markets represent an ideal way to support small local business and source a unique Christmas gift.
Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Alderman Graham Warke, has invited Santa and his Elf and Safety helpers to Derry and Strabane for a quick visit before Christmas and planned lots of festive fun activities for all the family to enjoy.
"I am delighted that we are able to welcome families back into the city and Strabane for the Christmas lights switch-ons this year." he said.
"I have spoken to our maintenance teams who have some exciting new lights installations planned for this year and it will be a magical evening to see the town centres lit up for the first time.
"I am particularly looking forward to meeting families as part of my family fun activities in the Alley Theatre and the Guildhall but I would urge families to book their free slot when they are released to guarantee entry."
The Mayor's programme begins at Strabane's Alley Theatre on Saturday December 4th from 12pm – 5pm before moving to the city's Guildhall from Friday December 17th until Sunday December 19th.
