Mayor to host St Patrick’s Tea Dance at Foyle Arena
07 March 2017
The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Alderman Hilary McClintock, will join older people from throughout the City and District to celebrate St Patrick’s Day with a special event at the Foyle Arena on Wednesday March 15th.
The Mayor’s St Patrick’s Day Tea Dance will mark the start of Council’s packed programme of events for the Spring Carnival celebrations and will see community groups and members of the public come together to enjoy music and refreshments in the company of the City and District’s First Citizen.
Donations on the day will go to the Mayor’s charities of Tearfund and Action Cancer and, speaking at the event launch, Alderman McClintock admitted it was an afternoon she is particularly looking forward to.
“During my Mayorality I have really enjoyed my tea dances because they are a great way for me to meet up and chat with older people from all over the City and District,” she said.
“It is often a unique opportunity for people from different communities to congregate together and enjoy some tea and music and, if they want, a dance.
“The main hall at the Foyle Arena is the biggest indoor venue we have in the Council area so we can accommodate as many people as possible to mark the start of the St Patrick’s celebrations and hopefully help raise some funds for those less fortunate than ourselves.”
Refreshments will be provided for the event which will run from 2pm and 4pm with music on the day provided by Midnight Sun.
Tickets are free and a limited number are available from Council Offices by telephoning Andrea Campbell on 028 7137 6545.
