Mayor to open Books of Condolence

14 November 2015

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council Cllr Elisha McCallion will open a  Book of Condolence in the Guildhall today following the tragedy in Paris on Friday night.

The Book of Condolence will open this afternoon, Saturday 14 November  from 3.30pm at the Guildhall and arrangements are being made to have a Book of Condolence available at the Council Offices in Strabane from lunchtime on Monday, 16 November, to allow people from across the city and district to express sympathy for those killed and injured in the multiple attacks in Paris this weekend.

Expressing her condolences the Mayor, said she was deeply shocked and saddened by the attacks and felt it was important to provide the people of Derry and Strabane with the opportunity to express solidarity with those who have died and are injured.

“I think everyone is totally shocked and horrified at the scenes in Paris overnight and our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this devastating  incident. The people of Derry and Strabane stand united with the people of Paris in friendship and solidarity as they try to come to terms with what has happened. The Books of Condolence at the Guildhall and Strabane will provide the local community with an opportunity to show their support for the people of France and I would encourage people to come along and show that we care.”
