Mayoral condemnation of Bishop Street attack
20 January 2019
Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council Cllr John Boyle has strongly condemned the suspected car bomb attack in Derry’s city centre last night and urged anyone with any information to come forward and assist the authorities with their investigations.
Mayor Boyle said: “I am absolutely appalled by this terrible act of violence last night , right in the heart of our city centre. I utterly condemn this attack which could easily have resulted in loss of life of injury. The perpetrators do not speak for the people of Derry and Strabane and I would urge anyone with any information to contact the authorities so we can bring the perpetrators to justice.”
The Mayor, who attended the scene last night, said he spoke with many local businesses, traders and visitors who were affected. He said it is important that incidents of this nature are totally unacceptable and every effort will be made to ensure it doesn’t have a negative impact upon our city and district.
