NI Entrepreneur is keynote speaker at Be the Boss enterprise week event

25 February 2019

Northern Ireland’s Entrepreneurship Ambassador Eleanor McEvoy will be giving an insight into her successful entrepreneurial journey when she takes part in Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Enterprise Week that is taking place on 04-08 March.

Eleanor McEvoy was appointed as Northern Ireland’s Entrepreneurship Ambassador in October 2018, and has since been working to inspire, profile and promote the benefits of being an Entrepreneur.

She is one of a number of high profile speakers taking part in Enterprise Week that is organised by the Council’s Business Support team, working in conjunction with a range of stakeholders and partners to meet the needs of local businesses through a range of events to assist them with promoting their business and sharing their experiences and stories.

The five-day agenda features a series of workshops, seminars and networking events with a number of influential figures in the business industry among the keynote speakers.

Eleanor will be one of the key note speakers addressing those attending the Be the Boss enterprise seminar taking place at the IMAXX Screen at the Omniplex Cinema on Strand Road on Monday 04 March.

Eleanor has herself had a very successful entrepreneurial journey having been involved in starting, developing, growing and successfully exiting a number of companies in sectors such as food, telecoms and energy.

She is a former winner of the UTV Business Personality of the Year and has been a finalist in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards. She now sits on the Board of Ernst & Young’s EOY Alumni.

Eleanor spent a number of years as a dragon on RTE’s Dragons’ Den and is currently a recipient of the accolade of Visiting Professor of Entrepreneurship by the University of Ulster.

Her involvement in Enterprise Week is a major coup for the Council who believe her experience as an entrepreneur will help encourage others to take that step forward with their business ideas.

Louise Breslin, Business Development Manager with Derry City and Strabane District Council says: “As the public face of entrepreneurship Eleanor encourages support for start-ups particularly those with high potential, both inside and outside Northern Ireland and we are delighted to have her on board with Enterprise Week and being one of our keynote speakers at the Be the Boss event.

“She is a successful business role model and is keen to share her knowledge and experience with potential and fledgling entrepreneurs and to emphasise the importance of entrepreneurial networks both locally and overseas.”

Encouraging people to sign up to attend the Be the Boss event, Louise explained that it is  an action packed session of enterprise support aimed at anyone with a business idea who want to become self-employed, or those already in business, seeking inspiration on how to drive their business further.

The event is scheduled to take place at the Omniplex Cinema, Strand Road, on Monday 04 March from 9 am to 1.45pm. Niamh Barry from the Irish Fairy Door Company is also a key note speaker at the event that will also include a series of masterclasses and a questions and answers seminar.

Among the highlights of Enterprise Week include a Business Breakfast to promote Apprenticeship schemes, a Perfect Pitch event aimed at helping businesses to pitch their business to investors and customers, as well as a Northern Ireland Chambers Regional Networking event.

There will also be a strong emphasis on Women in business with a series of events organised to coincide with International Women’s Day.

These are just a few highlights in a packed programme of events spanning from March 04-08 and anyone interested in taking part in any of the events is urged to register in advance.
