New Council course prepares candidates for fabrication and welding careers

11 October 2017

Registration is open now for an innovative fast track course at the North West Regional College to prepare candidates for a career in fabrication and welding.

The 12 week course is being hosted by Derry City and Strabane District Council in partnership with the Business Support Centre at the North West Regional college.

The course includes an eight week training programme where candidates will study for an industry recognised qualification, a four week industry placement and a guaranteed job interview with the 5 participating companies.

The Business Development Manager at North West Regional College, Nicola Curry, said the course is an ideal way for people to both learn and apply the skills of the trade to fill local vacancies.

“We are delighted to be able to form the Fabrication and Welding Academy in partnership with Derry and Strabane District Council,” she said.

“The course is an excellent opportunity to both gain a City and Guilds Level 3 qualification in welding and to develop and put those skills into practise with ‘on the job’ work experience.

“At the end of the course candidates are guaranteed an interview and the potential of a job in an entry level position with a local company in this sector and Council will be able to offer assistance in preparing candidates for that interview process.”

To be eligible for the Fabrication and Welding Academy, candidates must be over 18 years old, live within the Derry City and Strabane District Council area and have a Mathematics and English qualification at Level Two or above.

Candidates should also have an interest in pursuing a career in this discipline.

The closing date for applications is 4pm on Friday October 27th 2017.
