No9 Creations brings bespoke wooden crafts to the Walled City Market

24 May 2017

Shoppers attending the Walled City Market next Saturday 03 June, in Guildhall Square are encouraged to visit the No9 Creations stall showcasing its unique range of bespoke wooden kitchenware and gifts.

The Walled City Market is a monthly market organised by Derry City and Strabane District Council on the first Saturday of every month in Guildhall Square.

One of the stalls currently taking part in the Market is the No9 Creations company, owned by a local family, who create a wide range of unique bespoke wooden items, including kitchenware and gifts suitable for weddings and other celebratory events. Birch, oak and beech are amongst the types of wood used to create their unique products that range from personalised keyrings, to mini wooden beer or gin boxes or kitchen chopping boards.

The stall owners are delighted to be part of the Walled City Market and believe it’s a very useful way of getting the company name out into the local community.

Tony McDaid from No9 Creations says: “Unlike looking at pictures on the Internet, the local passing trade get to see and touch the products and therefore get an understanding of the workmanship and quality. The verbal interaction between us and the customer is important and allows us to offer personal inscriptions on our products and allow us to show them different designs to suit their needs and personal taste.

“The Walled City Market has provided us with a sound board for many of our items and we have been able to complete market research at first hand through direct interaction and listening to customers.  From this we have been able to move forward with the items that people like and review those that aren’t as popular,” he added.

Looking ahead, No9 Creations are keen to add local restaurants, bars and food suppliers to their portfolio. “Through the Walled City Market we have been able to make contact with a local cheese supplier and a local drinks manufacturer and are delighted to have become their supplier of choice.”
The company have only been in business since 2016 but are already seeing the benefits of taking part in the monthly market.

Tony continued: “We have been very impressed by the professionalism of the Walled City Market is run and the support network that is available to traders like us. It has provided us with opportunities to meet customers as well as interact with other traders.”

The No9 Creations stall is one of a number of traders taking part in this month’s market that takes place from 10 am to 5pm on the first Saturday of every month, with the next one scheduled to take place on Saturday 03 June, at Guildhall Square.

A market has also been set up in Strabane on the last Friday of every month at the Courtyard area at the Alley Theatre. Now in its third month the market has been a great success and traders interested in being part of it or the Walled City Market in Derry are urged to contact the Market Development Officer Nicolle Walters directly at [email protected].
