North West Greenway Network publish project visualisations

25 October 2018

The emerging design proposals for the planned cycling and walking route that will link Strabane in County Tyrone to Lifford in County Donegal have gone on display. The two local authorities of Donegal County Council and Derry City and Strabane District Council are planning to construct a segregated shared looped cycle route connecting some of the key residential, commercial and civic centres in the two towns.

The second information day is being held today in the Old Courthouse in Lifford. This is a follow-up to the event which was held yesterday in the Alley Theatre in Strabane.

Ronan Gallagher, Communications Manager for the project said: ‘this shared cycling and walking path will create a very tangible link between Lifford and Strabane. We hope it will encourage more people to think about how they travel in the locality. Our goal is to encourage modal shift, whether that’s with schoolchildren or office workers who presently travel by car.’

The Lifford to Strabane section is one of three routes planned by the two local authorities. The other routes will see Derry linked to Buncrana and Muff respectively. In November, the project is planning to host information events to showcase the emerging preferred route for ‘Route 2, Derry to Muff’.

Information on ‘Route 3, Lifford to Strabane’ and all the routes can be found on social media (@nwgreenway) or at www.nwgreenway.com.
