Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service Statement

17 November 2015

A Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said:

“Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) remain on site at the fire at Brickkiln Enviroparc, Electra Road, Maydown, Londonderry.

“The Firefighting operation continues and due to the change in wind direction the smoke plume is now blowing towards the Strathfoyle area. Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service would ask members of the local community living in the area to close their windows and doors until the plume clears. Firefighters will remain on site over the next few days, until the fire is fully extinguished.

“NIFRS are still working closely with the site owners, contractors, NI Environment Agency, Police Service of Northern Ireland, Public Health Agency, Northern Ireland Electricity and Derry City & Strabane District Council in the ongoing management of this incident. Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service continues to thank the local community in the area for their understanding as Firefighters deal with this incident.

“The cause of the fire remains under investigation.”
