Planning Committee approve extension of City Cemetery
05 January 2022
Members of Derry City and Strabane District Council's Planning committee have unanimously approved plans to construct an additional 950 plots at the City Cemetery in Derry.
The application came before members at today's virtual committee meeting where they heard about the plans for an extension of the existing Derry city cemetery by construction of an additional 950 plots with associated access road extended from the existing cemetery site.
Members were told that, as the applicant, Council undertook community engagement to inform the public of the proposed development and to seek their views prior to submission of the planning application. Attendees at the information session were told that additional parking spaces would be provided along the new access road into the cemetery.
After members voted unanimously to approve, Chair of the Planning Committee, Cllr Philip McKinney, said that the plans would be welcome news for residents across the city area.
The January Planning Committee meeting was held virtually and broadcast live to the public and media via the Council's YouTube channel which can be accessed by visiting bit.ly/DCSDCYT
