Planning approval for new homes & clubhouse extension at Sean Dolan site

Over 100 new homes have been approved by Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Planning Committee today.
 
Members of the committee today unanimously approved a major development proposal for 119 mixed use housing units at lands at and to the west of Sean Dolan GAC Grounds at Bligh’s Lane in Derry. The proposed mixed use housing development will include, 15 one bedroomed apartments, nine two-bedroomed apartments, 50 two-bedroomed dwellings, 37 three-bedroomed dwellings and eight four-bedroomed dwellings.
 
Approval was also granted for the extension and refurbishment of the existing clubhouse to provide a new multi-use community building and new access to Bligh’s Lane as well as alterations to the existing access, improved works to the existing car park. It will also include associated communal landscape works and off site works to include improved traffic calming measures at the Fanad Drive/Central Junction and speed control measures along Fanad Drive.
 
The decision to approve this major development was welcomed by the Planning Committee Chairman Cllr Christopher Jackson who said there is huge demand for new housing at the moment and that this proposal would great help in meeting the rising demand for new housing stock.
 
He praised the work of the planning team and those involved in the application for progressing with it during a difficult and challenging time for everyone and reassured the public that Council is committed to meeting the needs of local people by progressing with planning applications so that it can deliver modern and high quality homes across the Council area.
 
He said: “This is a very significant planning application that will have major positive impacts for the wider community in the Derry area. Not only will it see the creation of much needed housing but it will provide enhanced community and sports facilities that will have real and lasting social and community benefits set out in the Council’s Inclusive Strategic Growth Plan.”
