Planning approval granted for over 300 new homes

07 February 2019

Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Planning Committee has given the go ahead this evening for over 300 new dwellings across the City and District.

The decisions apply to a number of housing developments, and were approved at the monthly planning meeting in the Guildhall following recommendations by planning officials. The majority of the new homes are located north of the Skeoge Link Road in Galliagh, significantly boosting the available property in the area.

The first major residential development (App No - LA11/2017/0849/RM) up for decision will provide new accommodation in the form of 97 apartments, 166 two storey dwellings and associated landscaping, open space, parking, and roads. The development is located on Phase 1 East of Zoned H1B development at H1B Lands - Phase 1 East south of Beragh Hill Road and north of Skeoge Link Road, Galliagh, Derry.

Planners today also gave the go ahead for additional apartments at 6-7 Patrick Street (App No - LA11/2018/0509/F) in the city centre to include a new rear extension and a new additional floor providing 28 new self-contained apartments.

Eglinton Village is to benefit from the construction of four houses and 15 apartments with associated parking and landscaping at 19 Main Street, Muff, Eglinton, following the demolition of an office block.

Welcoming the decisions, Chair of the Planning Committee, Councillor Warren Robinson, said: “I am delighted to see further positive advances in enhancing the housing provision across Derry and Strabane. It demonstrates Council’s commitment to alleviating the growing pressure on housing here and improving the quality of new developments as they progress through our planning system, which is a priority of our emerging Local Development Plan.”
