Public invited to ‘Talk about Inclusion’

20 June 2016

A special conference promoting inclusion in local areas will take place in the Guildhall this week, organised by Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Good Relations team.

The ‘Let’s Talks about Inclusion’ event takes place this Thursday and is open to everyone giving people the chance to engage with individuals from different communities to discuss a range of key themes of priority in the district.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane, Alderman Hilary McClintock, said she was looking forward to hearing the views of a range of local people.

“Having just set out on my journey as Mayor I’m really keen to hear from people of all backgrounds living throughout the district. Events such as the Let’s Talk about Inclusion conference provide an open forum where people can comfortably discuss issues which affect us all.

“It’s an opportunity to hear different opinions and gain different perspectives on some of the themes which affect our lives and I would really encourage local people to attend. I look forward to meeting some new faces and hearing more about what the priorities are for our district, and how people would like to see things progressing.”

Council’s Good Relations officer Niamh Sculllion explained more about the event. “Throughout the morning the conference will give participants the opportunity to join four table discussions and meet people from their area. It will offer the chance to learn about others living in the community and maybe ask questions you wouldn’t regularly have the opportunity to ask. Table themes will explore prejudice with a focus on disability and black minority ethnic groups in the area.

“It’s set to be a really enjoyable day, with emphasis on good conversation that will make a valuable impact on local areas. The event is fully inclusive and organisers would be delighted to see a full house and representation of the entire community on the day.”

This interactive conference will begin at 10.30am in the Guildhall and will conclude with a complimentary lunch for participants.

If you are interested in attending the ‘Let’s Talks about Inclusion’ event please contact Niamh Scullion in Community Relations to book your space, by email through [email protected] or by phone on 028 71 253253. Attendees are asked to arrive by 10.30am on the day.
