Templemore launches new activity programme

29 April 2015

A   new programme of Council-led fitness activities aimed at all ages and abilities begins this weekend at Templemore Sports Complex, and anyone hoping to get in shape for summer is encouraged to take part.

Mayor of Derry and Strabane, Councillor Elisha McCallion, said the programme offered lots of opportunities for people of all ages to try out something new. “The new programme offers a wide range of activities, from fit camps to walking groups. The scheme is just the latest in a series of health and well being initiatives organised by Council and geared towards increasing awareness about the benefits of exercise on our physical and mental health.

“This has been a fantastic week for local sport and fitness with the launch of our new Foyle Arena, and I look forward to seeing the roll out of some new and exciting schemes at our sports centres over the coming months.

"I would encourage everyone to check out the Templemore programme to find the ideal activity to suit them.”

Saturday sees the return of the Saturday morning Kids Club which offers a range of exciting activities taking place over eight weeks for children aged six to twelve from May 2, running from 10am – 12noon.

From May 7th Templemore Peddlers will be on hand to help cycling enthusiasts improve their skills and complete Level 1 & Level 2 Cycling Proficiency Awards. The eight week programme is suitable for both adults and children aged 9+.

Budding soccer stars can also join the After-Schools Mini Soccer Club taking place each Tuesday afternoon from 4pm to 5pm, aimed at six to twelve year olds.

And there are plenty of activities for adults to improve their fitness levels in the coming weeks, with 50+ Fitness classes taking place each Wednesday between 12-1pm from May 6th. There will also be a series of Fit Camps taking place each Monday and Wednesday from 10am – 11am, with weekly weigh ins, health MOTs and Friday Group Cycling sessions.

The highly popular Couch to 5k series has already made its much anticipated return on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5.45pm – 7pm. And the Quay Ramblers have been pounding the pavements each Tuesday and Thursday from 10.30am – 11.30am, leaving from the back of the Guildhall.

Places on some of the schemes are limited so early booking is recommended. For information on the programme activities, pricing information and to register for places contact reception at Templemore Sports Complex on 02871 289200
