Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Templemore Sports Complex will host the Derry Schools Aquathlon Championships 2015 on Wednesday, 11 November.
Welcoming the event to the venue, the Mayor, Cllr Elisha McCallion said it was a huge coup for the city. “This is a fantastic event and I am delighted that it is being hosted at Templemore. I want to extend my best wishes to all the participants and organisers and hope its a great success.”
Tommy McCallion from Derry City and Strabane District Council explained that the event is organised by the Council in conjunction with Triathlon Ireland and the Northwest Triathlon Club.
“This is a pilot event where 10 males and 10 females will be chosen to represent Derry & Strabane in each category in the upcoming Ulster Schools Finals in November 2015 in Templemore Sports Complex, Derry. Schools can nominate up to a total of 10 pupils, both male and female. The event will be a timed event and the 10 fastest boys and girls in each category will go on to represent Derry & Strabane in the Ulster Finals. The cost of entry is £3 and payable on entry.
Michael Black- Development Manager with Triathlon Ireland said: Whilst this event will be in pilot form, your involvement in the event is much appreciated by Triathlon Ireland. It is anticipated that the success of this year’s event will support the introduction of the sport’s Children, Schools and Young People agenda as a whole. Triathlon Ireland hopes that your school are as eager to be involved in this ground breaking piece of work as we are. We hope to announce details of other exciting initiatives for Triathlon Ireland over the coming months.”
