Templemore to host Ulster Schools Aquathon Championships

30 November 2015

Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Templemore Sports Complex will host the Ulster Schools Aquathon Championships 2015 on Sunday, 06 December.

The venue recently hosted the hugely successful Derry Schools championship where over 60 children from Derry qualified for Ulster.

Up to 200 school kids from across Ulster are expected to compete in the competition which is organised by Derry City and Strabane District Council in conjunction with Triathlon Ireland.

Welcoming the event to Derry, the Mayor, Councillor Elisha McCallion, said it was a huge coup for the city to host the Ulster championships. “This is a fantastic event and I am delighted that it is being hosted at Templemore. I want to extend my best wishes to all the participants and organisers and hope it is a great success.”

Tommy McCallion from Derry City and Strabane District Council, said the Derry Aquathon Championships held earlier this month were a great success and the Council was delighted to secure the Ulster championships.

Welcoming schools from all over the region to the city, Tommy said the event promises to be very competitive and a great showcase of up and coming talent.

“For the first time ever we will have crowned Primary, Secondary A (12-13 years) and Secondary B (14-15 years) male and female school Aquathon champions. We are really looking forward to the event and hope it will be a great success.”
